The acorn and the tree

Today I saw it.

You wrinkled your nose and pouted your lips
Eyes squeezed nearly shut . . .
The face.
The same face your Daddy made at your age.
In those days I had a 35 millimeter camera
and film.
Twenty-four exposures clicked away
trying to capture
The face.

I’m ready, little Wonder.
I’m ready with a digital camera and fresh batteries
And I’m watching you
for
The face.
